Prime Minister and Labour leader Robert Abela addressed Labour supporters at the party’s final and largest mass meeting at the Granaries in Floriana, where thousands gathered in red and white ahead of Saturday’s vote.
During his speech, Abela said: “In me you will find a steady captain, with the same energy as the first day, but with more enthusiasm.” He said the decision on who will lead the country after Saturday rests with the people, while thanking supporters for the love shown towards him and his family.
At the start of his address, an emotional Abela thanked his wife, Dr Lydia Abela, and their daughter Giorgia Mae, describing them as the love of his life and his inspiration. He said he would not have reached this point without his wife’s support.
Abela said a Labour government had moved the country forward because Maltese and Gozitan citizens were its driving force. He also stated that, although the government was not perfect, its “heart was in the right place.”
He urged people to collect their voting document, speak to Labour representatives, and then decide calmly at home.
