Pope Leo XIV reminded the faithful that God’s love is stronger than human weakness during his Angelus address on the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time from Liberty Square in Castel Gandolfo. Reflecting on the Parable of the Sower from St Matthew’s Gospel, the Pope said the story reveals “the generosity and trust with which God sows His Word in our hearts.”
The Holy Father explained that Jesus Himself is the seed sent by the Father into the world, bringing new life wherever hearts are open to receive Him. While the seed may sometimes fall on hardened or distracted ground, there are also hearts that welcome God’s Word and allow it to bear abundant fruit.
“God never tires of sowing because He knows that the power of His love is greater than our weakness,” Pope Leo said, encouraging Christians never to lose hope, even when they struggle in their faith journey.
Drawing on the writings of St John Chrysostom, the Pope noted that what seems impossible for human beings is always possible for God. Hearts that appear closed or hardened can be transformed into fertile ground where faith, hope and love flourish.
The Pope also stressed that God continues to believe in every person. “The Lord never stops believing in us, in who we are and in who we can become,” he said, explaining that God sees the potential for goodness in every individual, often before they recognise it themselves.
As many families begin their summer holidays, Pope Leo invited everyone to make time not only for rest and recreation but also for silence, prayer and reflection on God’s Word. He encouraged the faithful to return to their daily lives renewed in both body and spirit, ready to share the joy of the Gospel with others.
Entrusting this mission to the Virgin Mary, Queen of the Apostles and Star of Evangelisation, the Pope prayed that Christians would continue to grow in faith and become living witnesses of Christ’s love.
