Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela announced that next week he will begin consulting children on “how they want the national park at White Rocks to be designed.” Speaking at a political event in Żejtun, he stated that economic development is progressing alongside “major investment in green and open spaces for families.”
Dr Abela said that once White Rocks, Manoel Island and Fort Campbell are returned to the public, Malta will have a higher percentage of protected land and parks “than Germany, and one and a half times that of Denmark.” Reviewing this year’s progress, he noted that Malta currently enjoys the lowest unemployment rate in the EU, contrasting it with 2012 when the country “was the second worst for job creation.” He also highlighted that eight out of every ten new jobs today are in managerial, professional or technical careers, with the basic pay having risen by €10,000.

Referring to Standard & Poor’s, Dr Abela said the agency confirmed that Malta will soon exit the excessive deficit procedure and retains “the highest rating,” as its economy is expected to remain strong. He added that growth has been “eight times Italy’s rate” and ten times Germany’s.
He also noted that since 2013, Labour governments have delivered €820 million in tax cuts for families and significantly reduced reliance on social assistance. Dr Abela announced a fundraising marathon on Sunday, emphasising Labour’s commitment to publishing audited accounts and meeting transparency obligations.
