BirdLife Malta’s Salt Fest, also known as Festa Melħ, will return for its third edition on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July 2026 at the Salina Nature Reserve.
The free, family-friendly festival will run from 4:00pm until 8:30pm on both days, celebrating the natural, cultural and historical heritage of Malta’s iconic Salina salt pans.
Visitors will be able to explore the centuries-old tradition of salt harvesting through guided tours of the salt pans and visits to the Salt Museum. The tours will also offer the rare opportunity to walk directly onto the salt pans and learn about Salina’s historical contribution to Malta’s economy and culture.
An artisan market will feature locally produced crafts, artworks and sustainable products, while environmental organisations and conservation groups will present their work to protect Malta’s wildlife, natural habitats and cultural heritage.
Children and families can take part in crafts, educational games and other activities suitable for different ages. A virtual reality experience will also allow visitors to discover Salina from a new perspective.
Food and refreshments will be available throughout the festival. The Salt Museum, Visitor Centre and indoor market area are fully air-conditioned.
Entrance to Salt Fest and the museum is free. Guided tour and museum tickets cost €4, while a family ticket costs €8 for two adults and up to two children under six.
Tours will depart every 20 minutes between 4:15pm and 7:35pm, with groups limited to 20 people per guide. An additional tour at 7:45pm may be organised depending on demand and guide availability.
BirdLife Malta has advised visitors to book early on the day. Tours may be adapted, shortened or cancelled if flamingos or other sensitive birds are present, as wildlife protection remains the reserve’s priority.
