Prime Minister Robert Abela has confirmed that the situation in Ta’ Ġiorni has been brought under control following the shooting incident in which two police officers were injured while responding to a suspected arson case.
Earlier in the day, Abela said he was “following closely the developing situation in Ta’ Ġiorni where an aggressor shot two police officers.” He praised the emergency services and members of the Malta Police Force, saying they were “working tirelessly” to bring the situation under control. He also urged the public to follow the authorities’ instructions, avoid the affected area and allow emergency personnel to carry out their work safely, while expressing his full support for members of the Police Force.
In a later update, the Prime Minister announced that the situation had been brought under control. He stated that the two alleged aggressors involved in the incident were now in Police custody and that all Police officers had safely exited the scene.
Abela also expressed his thoughts to the two injured police officers and their families, saying they were in his prayers during this difficult time. Concluding his statement, he stressed that “now, justice must be done.”
The incident remains under Police investigation.
