The Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela, has officially inaugurated a new Children, Adolescents and Youth Services Centre (CAYS) in Birkirkara. The modern facility brings together a wide range of specialised services for children and young people under one roof.
CAYS integrates services that previously operated separately, including the Child Development Assessment Unit and Child and Young People’s Services. This new structure aims to improve coordination and provide families with more accessible, efficient, and comprehensive care in a single location.

During the visit, the Prime Minister toured the centre and met professionals, staff, and families benefiting from the services. The facility offers holistic care addressing both physical and mental health needs, including paediatrics, psychiatry, psychology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy, among others.
The centre also includes specialised spaces such as a quiet room and breastfeeding room, designed to improve the experience of children and their families. A multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and social workers will support patients.
This investment aligns with Malta’s long-term vision to strengthen community-based healthcare and provide modern, accessible services.
