A key phase of the Msida Creek infrastructure project has been completed, with the new bridge linking Ta’ Xbiex and Pietà opening to vehicles on Sunday, 2 November. Spanning 14 metres across the canal, the bridge marks a milestone in improving connectivity while also serving as the main outlet for a new stormwater channel designed to address flooding issues in the area.

The project includes a new dual carriageway to ease traffic flow and prepare for upcoming stages, which will feature the creation of a 2,200-square-metre public square in front of the parish church.
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett said the project demonstrates how Malta’s “strong economy” is enabling long-term investment in infrastructure that prioritises both connectivity and community wellbeing. “This is not just a road project. It is an investment in people’s quality of life,” he said, highlighting that the project will create open spaces for walking, cycling, and family recreation.
Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul added that works are being carried out with great care to minimise inconvenience, with major works and diversions scheduled during weekends or at night and clear communication maintained with residents and drivers.
