The Vittoriosa Historical & Cultural Society has officially launched a new publication titled The Streets of Vittoriosa: Their Names and Other Curiosities, written by George Agius. The launch took place on Thursday, 25 June 2026, at the Soreda Hotel in Buġibba as part of the Society’s monthly cultural programme for its members.
The 260-page publication explores the history, origins and unique stories behind all 82 streets of Vittoriosa, featuring more than 340 photographs. The project was made possible through funding from the Small Initiatives Support (SIS) Scheme of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, together with additional funds provided by the Society.

The event also paid tribute to two respected figures closely associated with the Society, co-founder and Honorary President Lorenzo Zahra and former President and Honorary President Anton Attard, both of whom passed away during the past year. The book has been dedicated to their memory, with biographical tributes read by Jean Paul Parascandalo, who also served as one of the publication’s proofreaders.
Society Treasurer Lawrence Zahra, who coordinated the project, outlined the work behind the publication, while author George Agius explained how the names of Vittoriosa’s streets evolved over the centuries and presented the different sections of the book. The event was hosted by Adrian Vella, who also contributed as a proofreader.
The launch was attended by Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector CEO Mauro Pace Parascandalo, representatives of the Council, and members of the families of Lorenzo Zahra and Anton Attard, adding further significance to the occasion.
