Cardinal Mar George Alencherry received a warm welcome in Malta as the St Thomas Syro-Malabar Community marked the feast of St Thomas the Apostle and its anniversary celebrations.
Members of the community welcomed the Cardinal during the first day of the festivities, which included traditional religious ceremonies and the celebration of the Holy Qurbana.
The visit brought together members of Malta’s Syro-Malabar Catholic community for prayer and celebrations centred on St Thomas, who holds a special place in the tradition and history of the Syro-Malabar Church.
Cardinal Alencherry also celebrated the liturgy for the Syro-Malabar community at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. The celebration followed a traditional religious procession, bringing the community’s distinctive Eastern Catholic traditions into the heart of Malta’s capital.
The celebrations offered members of the community an opportunity to gather around their faith, traditions and shared spiritual heritage while marking the feast of St Thomas.
