Ambassador and President of the Northern Regional Council Clifford Galea has questioned why some Maltese people respond negatively when foreigners share positive comments about Malta.
“Never speak against Malta, especially on positive comments from foreigners about us,” Galea wrote, expressing frustration at the way praise for the country is sometimes met with criticism from Maltese social media users.
Galea acknowledged that Malta still has several issues that need to be addressed. However, he asked why a positive comment about the country should immediately be ridiculed or challenged.
“We have a lot to fix, but why do we want to ridicule a beautiful comment about our Malta?” he asked. Galea also questioned why some people choose to reply in English when posting negative remarks under comments made by foreigners.
According to Galea, criticism should instead be directed towards the right places where problems can actually be highlighted and addressed.
“Let people praise our homeland,” he said, adding that when something is not right, people should comment and speak up “where we need to comment so that we can fix it.”
