The Government has signed what has been described as the largest investment agreement for Civil Protection workers, aimed at improving working conditions and career progression. Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Prime Minister Robert Abela said he was proud to lead a country that continues to invest strongly in its workforce.
The agreement forms part of a wider effort, with nearly 140 sectoral agreements concluded since 2022. The Prime Minister noted that the Government has invested around €2 billion in salary increases alone, describing it as a significant commitment made possible through a strong national economy. He added that each agreement represents “another step forward” in strengthening the wellbeing of workers and their families.
The new deal for Civil Protection officials introduces improved allowances and salary increases, including an allowance of €1,500 and a minimum annual increase of €2,200 per officer, alongside faster salary scale progression. The agreement follows a previous one signed in 2021 and builds on reforms introduced in 2015 allowing disciplined forces to join unions.
The Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri stated that recognition for these workers must go beyond words, stressing that appreciation is being delivered through concrete measures.
