The ‘Islands Cleanup’ campaign has officially been launched once again by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness, in collaboration with Saving Our Blue, Project Green, and the Cleansing and Maintenance Division. The initiative builds on the success of previous years, continuing to encourage organisations, NGOs, young people, and local communities to take part in protecting Malta’s marine ecosystems.

This year’s launch took place at Pretty Bay, where participants carried out clean-up activities both at sea and on land. During the first event, a total of 50kg of waste was collected, carefully separated, and processed according to regulations. The campaign aims not only to remove waste but also to raise awareness about environmental responsibility.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli stated, “It is encouraging to see a growing number of organisations, NGOs, and young people joining the Islands Cleanup campaign,” while urging the public to dispose of waste responsibly. Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield added that keeping the country clean “should be everyone’s responsibility through a national effort.”

The campaign is open to schools, companies, and organisations, with participants provided equipment and certification after each activity.
