A national conference titled “Shaping the Future: National Arts Education Conference” brought together educators, cultural practitioners, and policymakers from Malta and across Europe to discuss the creation of a National Academy for Visual and Performing Arts in Malta.

Organised by the Malta Council for the Arts, in collaboration with the Ministry for Culture, the Arts and Local Government, and the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, the conference was held at MCAST in Paola. It featured keynote speeches, position papers, and panel discussions on strengthening Malta’s creative education ecosystem.

Minister Owen Bonnici said it is crucial to build a strong artistic education system “to nurture a creative generation capable of critical and sustainable thinking.” He highlighted the government’s commitment to collaboration under Vision Malta 2050. Minister Clifton Grima emphasised that arts education plays a vital role in shaping “a creative and holistic society,” adding that the government remains committed to investing in creative learning.

Arts Council Malta Chairperson Luke Dalli described the initiative as a key step toward ensuring universal access to culture and supporting sustainable careers for artists. The conference also featured international speakers from leading European arts institutions who shared perspectives on evolving education models.
