Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg participated in the 16th session of the Sir Bani Yas Forum, held in Dubai and hosted by UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan . The high-level retreat focuses on key geopolitical issues affecting peace and security in the Gulf region and the wider Middle East.

The Forum brought together around 120 delegates, including foreign ministers, current and former senior officials, global business leaders, and academic experts. On the margins of the event, Dr Borg also held meetings with several other foreign ministers to discuss matters of mutual interest.

During the same visit, Dr Borg marked Malta’s Republic Day by attending a National Day reception hosted by Malta’s Ambassador to the UAE, Maria Camilleri Calleja. The event was also attended by Omar Al Neyadi, Director for European Affairs at the UAE Ministry for Foreign Affairs, alongside officials, members of the Maltese community, and representatives of Maltese companies operating in the UAE.

Addressing those present, Dr Borg praised the Maltese community, stating: “You are leaders and innovators in aviation, financial services, hospitality, real estate, health services, legal services, and retail.” He highlighted Malta’s recent launch of a Regional Framework Policy for the Gulf, noting that “Malta and the UAE are important commercial hubs in their respective regions and can complement each other well.” He also underlined Malta’s readiness to support stronger cooperation between the EU and the GCC.
