St George’s Basilica in Victoria, Gozo, will host a special celebration on Saturday, 1st November at 9:30am dedicated to the Council of Nicaea, held in 325 A.D. The event, titled “1700 mill-Konċilju ta’ Niċea”, will explore the enduring importance of this historic gathering in shaping Christian belief.
The Basilica invites everyone to attend this occasion, which will include a presentation and reflection by Fr Jonathan Farrugia. During the celebration, Fr Farrugia will “explain the importance and value for us Christians,” highlighting how the Council of Nicaea gave rise to the Creed (Il-Kredu) — the cornerstone of Christian faith that “brings together our belief.”
Following the talk, the Creed will be sung in a solemn moment of shared faith. Organisers emphasised that this event aims to deepen understanding of the Church’s roots and unity in belief.
The Basilica also announced that “the 10am Mass will not be celebrated” on the same morning to accommodate the Nicaea commemoration. The faithful are warmly encouraged to attend this unique spiritual and educational event.
