The Government has announced that it will coordinate €25 million in funding for the construction of a new Holistic Care Centre for Children and Families in Mosta, to be administered by Puttinu Cares. The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by Prime Minister Robert Abela, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri, and Puttinu Cares President Angele Cuschieri.
The funding will cover both the construction of the centre and its operational costs for the first five years. It will be sourced from substantial philanthropic donations linked to citizenship by merit. Prime Minister Abela stated that the project follows the allocation of public land to Puttinu Cares and will offer not only medical care but also psychological, therapeutic and educational services for children undergoing treatment.

“Malta we want is a Malta where, in moments of need, families find a Government with the resources and the will to support them,” Dr Abela said. He explained that donors making significant philanthropic contributions to the project may be considered for citizenship by merit, subject to strict due diligence requirements.
Minister Byron Camilleri described the project as one of national importance, aimed at elevating support for families affected by cancer. Angele Cuschieri said the centre will allow Puttinu Cares to “walk alongside families during the hardest moments,” offering dignity and immediate support.

Following the press conference, Prime Minister Abela, accompanied by his wife Dr Lydia Abela, ministers, and Puttinu Cares representatives, visited children at Rainbow Ward in Mater Dei Hospital, where Christmas gifts were distributed through the Rigal bi Mħabba initiative.
