Educator Mark Azzopardi has paid a heartfelt tribute following the tragic deaths of a young pupil from Maria Regina College St Paul’s Bay Primary School and his father, who lost their lives after they were allegedly struck by a boat while on a small dinghy in Ġnejna Bay.

In an emotional message, Azzopardi said the tragedy had shaken the entire school community. The student “was one of ours,” he said. “At our school, every child who walks through those doors becomes part of our family, and today we grieve as a family grieves,” he wrote, adding that both the young boy and his father had been taken far too soon.

Azzopardi also revealed that the loss was deeply personal for him, saying he had “the privilege of being a family friend for many years.” He offered his condolences to the boy’s mother, siblings, relatives and loved ones, adding, “We are here, and we will continue to be here, for as long as you need us.”

Maria Regina College St Paul’s Bay Primary School also issued a statement mourning the loss of its beloved student and his father. The school said every child who walks through its doors becomes part of one family and pledged to continue supporting the family in the difficult weeks and months ahead.
