A statement by the Partit Nazzjonalista has highlighted concerns about workplace wellbeing in Malta, citing recent international findings on employee stress levels. Referring to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace: 2026 Report, the party noted that “more than half of workers in Malta experience high levels of stress in the workplace,” raising alarms about the impact on both health and productivity.

The report, which analysed 160 countries, shows that Europe generally records lower stress levels, with an average of 39% compared to a global average of 40%. However, Malta stands out with 57% of workers reporting stress, placing it among the highest in the region.

The PN statement further emphasised that Malta ranks as the second most affected country in southern Europe, following Greece at 61%. Other countries such as Cyprus (56%), Italy (51%), and Spain (47%) reported lower levels. The data also shows Malta exceeding the European average in workplace anger, sadness, and loneliness.

The party said these findings underline the need to address workplace conditions and employee wellbeing.
