The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) continued their active support to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, FRONTEX, by taking part in Joint Operation GREECE 25 and Joint Operation BULGARIA 25. These missions aimed to deter illegal border crossings and reinforce the management of the European Union’s external borders, contributing significantly to collective European security.
The deployments involved a Coastal Patrol Boat (CPB) and its crew operating between 19 March and 14 May 2025, followed by AFM land patrols from 14 May to 29 October 2025. The operations took place along Greece’s and Bulgaria’s external EU borders, where AFM personnel worked in coordination with local authorities and other European counterparts.
Throughout these missions, AFM teams were commended for their professionalism and dedication. Host member states recognised their contribution to enhancing regional stability, cooperation, and solidarity within the EU framework.
