The University of Malta Academic Staff Association (UMASA) “declared an Industrial dispute with UM.” The association explained that the move was taken after “UMASA having presented our financial demands over a year ago, and having repeatedly asked for UM’s offer,” yet it still “have no reply with regard to the financial package.”
UMASA stated that the prolonged lack of response from the University of Malta has left academic staff without clarity on the proposed financial terms. According to the association, discussions have been ongoing for more than a year, but no official offer has been communicated.
In its statement, UMASA warned that if “a reasonable offer is not received by Monday at noon we will be issuing directives to academics.” This signals a potential escalation in industrial action.
