A traditional Maltese balcony will soon appear in different localities across Malta and Gozo as part of ‘Malta Tells’, a new cultural and artistic project bringing theatre, art and local stories directly into public spaces.

The mobile balcony will serve as a stage for interactive productions celebrating Maltese daily life, traditions, culture and local identity. The initiative also aims to highlight the attractions and unique characteristics of towns and villages around the islands.

Local Government and Public Works Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli visited the site where the traditional balcony is currently being constructed. She described the project as an example of how culture can give “new life to public spaces” and strengthen the work of local government.

“The Local Councils are the heart of our communities,” the Minister said, adding that Malta Tells will create opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the identity and history of each locality “in an interactive and innovative way.”

Artistic Director Ryan Galea explained that the balcony will be at the heart of the project, serving both as a theatrical stage and a symbol of Maltese identity.

The project will combine theatre, artistic installations and audiovisual productions, encouraging people to explore different localities across Malta and Gozo.
