Gabriel Sciberras, a law student, addressed delegates at the Labour Party General Conference ahead of the leadership vote, focusing on the role of young people, support for families, and confidence in the party’s leadership. Speaking before delegates at the Labour headquarters, Sciberras said that young people should be given the opportunity “to be the main players” and become “today’s leaders.” He described this as a defining characteristic of the Labour Party.
Reflecting on the party’s electoral manifesto, Sciberras said it was built on the principle that “no one in society should be left behind because of their social background.” He highlighted the manifesto’s emphasis on supporting families, describing the family as “the cornerstone of everything” and the first place where children learn the values that shape their future.
Speaking from his own experience as a law student preparing to enter the legal profession, Sciberras said the manifesto offered young people “stability and peace of mind” during the transition from education to employment. He argued that the Labour Party had regained the trust of many young people through “results, not just promises,” adding that credibility came from delivering on commitments.
Sciberras also reflected on the party’s electoral success, describing the latest victory as a renewed mandate from the Maltese and Gozitan people. He praised the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Abela, Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg, and Deputy Leader Alex Agius Saliba, saying their leadership was founded on “results” and “credibility.” Concluding his speech, he urged delegates to remain united and committed to serving the country, stating: “Someone who truly loves their country doesn’t seek votes, but the honour of serving it.”
