A record crowd of around 40,000 people attended the 18th edition of Isle of MTV Malta at the Floriana Granaries on Tuesday evening, according to the Ministry for Tourism. The free concert, described as the largest of its kind in Europe, once again attracted thousands of visitors who travelled to Malta specifically for the annual music festival.

The evening began with performances by Maltese artists Jamie Cardona, Aidan and Mychael Bartolo Chircop, who opened the event with a programme of live music before the international acts took to the stage.

One of the most anticipated performances came from Katy Perry, who performed a selection of her biggest hits together with her new single, Watch It Burn. During an acoustic rendition of Roar, DJ Afrojack later closed the concert.
Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said events of this calibre continue to strengthen Malta’s position as a leading destination for international events while contributing directly to the country’s economy. He also noted that the concert will be broadcast in more than 150 countries on 18 September and made available on demand, further promoting Malta on the global stage.
