Pope Leo XIV led the Rosary prayer at the historic Sanctuary of Mamã Muxima in Angola on April 19, delivering a strong message of peace, compassion, and unity. Addressing thousands of faithful gathered at the 17th-century site, the Pope emphasised that “love must triumph, not war,” highlighting the example of the Virgin Mary as a guide for humanity.

Speaking during the prayer, the Pope encouraged people to “love every person with a maternal heart, in a concrete and generous way,” with particular attention to the poor and vulnerable. He described Mamã Muxima as a place where “everyone is welcomed, everyone is heard, and everyone is prayed for,” reflecting the deep faith of the local community.

The Pontiff also recalled the historical significance of the sanctuary, once linked to the deportation of enslaved people, and turned it into a call for justice and dignity. He urged believers to become “agents of justice and bearers of peace,” while praying for those facing hunger, illness, and hardship.
