The Life Network Foundation has published the Partit Nazzjonalista’s response to questions on abortion and assisted voluntary euthanasia ahead of the 2026 General Election. In its reply, the PN stated that a Nationalist government “would have no mandate” to introduce either abortion or euthanasia legislation during the next legislature.
Life Network Foundation sent questions to all Maltese political parties. However, at the time of writing, no replies from the Labour Party or ADPD had been published on the organisation’s website.
The issue of euthanasia also featured during the debate between Labour Party Leader and Prime Minister Robert Abela and Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg on Xtra yesterday.
The comments came as the Labour Party’s electoral manifesto includes a commitment to continue discussions on voluntary assisted euthanasia and adds that the public will be given the opportunity to express its position through a referendum.
Borg said that if the Maltese people were to vote on the measure through a referendum, political leaders should respect that democratic decision.
When asked about euthanasia, the PN’s electoral AI platform refers to the Nationalist Party’s Vision and Mission, stating that the party is committed to protecting “everyone’s health and development from conception to the last breath, with full respect for the value and rights of human life and the dignity of every person.”
It added that this commitment is “one of the party’s fundamental principles.”
