Prime Minister Robert Abela inaugurated the Verdala Wellness Hotel AX Privilege in Rabat, stating that Malta “is increasingly establishing a tourism product that allows us to move further towards quality tourism.” He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg.
The Prime Minister said the opening of this hotel comes at a time when Malta’s tourism sector “continues to show sustainable growth.” He noted that the country is achieving strong results not only in the summer months but “also throughout the rest of the seasons.” Abela highlighted that by September, tourist arrivals had increased by 12% compared with the same period last year, while tourist spending in the first nine months of the year reached €3 billion, “almost 20% more than a year ago.”
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister described the prospects as encouraging, supported by strengthened connectivity and new routes, including direct flights from the United States starting next year. He said this expansion allows Malta to reach new markets and attract “quality tourists,” further positioning the country as a leading Mediterranean destination.
Abela emphasised that the government is pursuing a strategy focused on “quality over quantity,” reflected in the Malta 2050 Vision. He added that the AX Group’s investment contributes to developing a higher-value tourism product, featuring high-end residences and an adults-only hotel offering a distinctive experience.
