Opposition Urges More Ambitious and Inclusive Malta Vision 2050

The Partit Nazzjonalista has stated that “the Vision for Malta’s future must be more ambitious,” insisting that Malta Vision 2050 must place people’s needs and quality of life at the centre of long-term planning. The party said the framework should outline not only end goals but also “a clear direction for a more sustainable, inclusive future” that genuinely improves life for Maltese and Gozitan citizens.

These remarks formed part of the PN’s formal reaction to the Malta Vision 2050 document, presented during a scheduled meeting with Minister Silvio Schembri. The PN delegation, led by Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione, stressed the importance of reaching national consensus, noting that this vision concerns “the future of all Maltese citizens.”

Shadow Minister Jerome Caruana Cilia said that while the Government’s draft contains positive points, the PN believes Malta should aim to lead rather than follow in key sectors. He emphasised that economic goals must translate into tangible improvements, highlighting the need to address widening inequalities.

George Vital Zammit, who prepared the PN’s position, outlined proposals that the PN supports while also flagging weaknesses in governance, rule of law, housing, inequality, environmental targets, and the reliance on population growth to drive the economy.
