The presentation of the book “Peter in the Island of Paul” took place at the Archbishop’s Curia in Valletta in the presence of Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, during his official visit to Malta. The event formed part of the concluding celebrations marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between Malta and the Holy See.

The volume was authored by Rev. Dr Nicholas Joseph Doublet, a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Theology. The publication explores key milestones in the long-standing relationship between Malta and the Holy See, highlighting Malta’s ecclesial, cultural, and diplomatic heritage within the Mediterranean context. The book also features illustrative contributions by artist Daniel Cilia.

During the event, Cardinal Parolin addressed the role of diplomacy grounded in respect for sovereignty, peace, and human dignity. He referred to Malta’s historic role as a crossroads of the Mediterranean and highlighted contemporary challenges such as migration and the safeguarding of peace within a fragile international order.

As part of the visit, a Mass will be celebrated tomorrow, Sunday 1 February 2026, at 9.30am in English at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. The Mass will be concelebrated by the bishops of Malta and Gozo, the Apostolic Nuncio, and emeritus bishops, bringing the commemorative celebrations to a close.
