Momentum: “Abela Is Whitewashing the Vitals-Steward Scandal”

Momentum has expressed “deep concern at Prime Minister Robert Abela’s continued attempts to whitewash one of the most serious corruption scandals in Malta’s history,” referring to the hospitals concession involving Vitals Global Healthcare and Steward Health Care.

Momentum said that while the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration ruling confirmed the lawful termination of the Steward contract, it “failed to deliver justice to the Maltese people.” Momentum noted that “despite the government’s promises, not a single cent has been recovered” from the millions paid out under the deal. It added that the public was left with “no new hospital in Gozo, a derelict and semi-abandoned St Luke’s hospital, no renovations, and no tangible improvements in the healthcare system.”

Momentum accused Prime Minister Abela of “a deliberate distortion of reality” and “damage control for a failed administration.” It also claimed that Abela remains “held hostage by the toxic legacy of the Joseph Muscat administration.”

Arnold Cassola said: “The Maltese people deserve transparency, accountability, and justice… The fact remains: no hospitals were built, no upgrades were delivered, and public funds were squandered.”
