The Marsaskala Residents’ Network (MRN) has announced a press conference to express its “strong opposition to the proposed fast ferry terminal project in Marsaskala Bay.” The project, led by Infrastructure Malta, is seen by the Network as a major threat to “one of the few remaining open and natural areas of the locality,” which could be transformed “into a transport and commercial hub.”

Residents have voiced serious concerns regarding “the lack of transparency, environmental risk to Posidonia Oceanica meadows, potential archaeological damage, and the negative impact on swimmers, fishers, and the local community.” MRN is calling for “the immediate suspension of all related works and permits until full environmental, social, and archaeological studies are carried out.”

The press conference will take place on Saturday, 1st November 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Triq is-Salini, Marsaskala—“just above the ramp leading to the main breakwater.”

This initiative, organised by MRN, is being supported by several NGOs and resident groups including Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar, Din l-Art Ħelwa, BirdLife Malta, Ramblers’ Association of Malta, Nature Trust – FEE Malta, Friends of the Earth Malta, Moviment Graffitti, Momentum, Il-Kollettiv, ATAL, Sliema Residents Association, Residenti Beltin, and Għaqda Storja Kultura Birżebbuġa.
