The Labour Party has accused the Nationalist Party of misleading the public over the Steward hospitals case, saying that the international arbitration decision “certifies the PN’s €400 million lie.” In a statement, the Labour Party said the PN “tried once again to distract from its deception,” which successive PN leaders had repeated for months, but that “today their falsehood has been certified.”
According to the statement, the final decision of the International Arbitration Tribunal — published by the government — confirms that “Steward received no €400 million and that the Government received fair value for the services provided.” The Labour Party added that the PN also “deceived the public when it claimed the Government paid for infrastructural improvements,” noting instead that payments were made only “for the benefits received, which were enjoyed by Maltese and Gozitan patients.”
The party said the decision “clearly shows how the Government, through its local and international legal teams, defended the national interest in the best way possible.” It further claimed that “by the way Adrian Delia filed the case in Maltese courts, he deprived the State of the opportunity to claim damages.”
“The PN lied point blank,” the statement concluded, adding that “now the truth has surfaced — iż-żejt tela’ f’wiċċ l-ilma.”
