Labour Highlights “Inconsistencies” in PN Malta Vision 2050 Proposal

The Labour Party has described the Nationalist Party’s submission for the Malta Vision 2050 consultation as “nothing more than a confusing document filled with contradictions.” In a press conference, Labour Whip Naomi Cachia and MP Alex Muscat noted that the PN presented its submission on 12 November after twice missing the deadline, despite the document itself being “dated September,” which they said was an attempt to conceal the delay.

The Labour MPs highlighted what they described as major inconsistencies. MP Alex Muscat pointed out that “on page 4… they praise it for ‘setting ambitious, measurable targets’,” yet in their accompanying press release the PN claimed the national vision “should be more ambitious.” Naomi Cachia added that on page 15, the PN called for statutory Gozo Impact Assessments, even though Chapter 600 already requires regional impact assessments for all major national strategies, policies, projects and legislation affecting Gozo — legislation introduced “at a time when MP Jerome Caruana Cilia was in Parliament.”

The Labour Party concluded that these contradictions show the PN “cannot put forward a credible vision for Malta’s future,” stressing that this increases the responsibility on Labour to “work diligently and wisely in the national interest.” The statement ended with the Maltese proverb: “Qattus għaġġelija frieħ għomja tagħmel.”
