As Christmas draws closer, Gozo is experiencing a positive atmosphere marked by work, commerce, and tradition, according to a visit by Prime Minister Robert Abela. Accompanied by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, the Prime Minister toured several locations across the island to observe preparations linked to the festive season.
The visit began at the Gozo Maintenance Directorate, where workers are engaged in producing decorations that adorn streets and villages. These efforts, the statement notes, are “creating a unique appearance for the island” while strengthening the Christmas atmosphere across Gozitan communities.
The Prime Minister later visited Savina, where artisanal gifts made from Gozitan products are being prepared. Some of these locally produced items are set to be presented by Dr Abela to “His Holiness Pope Leo XIV and several international leaders” during upcoming official visits.
Attention was also given to economic activity, with a stop at Vini e Capricci, part of Abraham Holdings. There, employees were busy packaging seasonal hampers, reflecting what was described as strong commercial momentum during the festive period.
Cultural traditions were also central to the visit. In Xagħra, Dr Abela met Aaron Agius, who builds a nativity scene with his children, while the visit concluded at the M.U.S.E.U.M. in Nadur, featuring a nativity by artist Jean Paul Portelli.
Concluding the visit, the Prime Minister said Gozo reflects “a balance between progress and tradition” that makes Christmas on the island “such a special experience.”
