Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said announced this morning that she held a meeting with Dr Fleur Abela, who will shortly assume the role of Commissioner for the Proper Treatment of Animals.
Dr Abela, who has “a strong legal background and a love for animals,” will be taking over the position in the coming days. Bugeja Said expressed confidence in her appointment, stating that “together we can continue working further in favour of the wellbeing of all animals.”
The Parliamentary Secretary also praised Dr Abela’s approach and positivity during the meeting, saying she has “no doubt that she will maintain the same positive energy she showed today” as she begins her new role. Bugeja Said added that Dr Abela will continue to build on “the excellent work carried out by Alison Bezzina over the past five years in favour of animals.”
