A member of the Armed Forces of Malta has successfully completed an intensive mountaineering training programme in Italy, further strengthening the operational capabilities of the Maltese military.
Lance Bombardier Agius Arnold, from C Company, 1 Regiment of the Armed Forces of Malta, completed the Basic Mountaineering Course, a demanding 20-day programme organised by the Italian Army at the Centro Addestramento Alpino in Aosta.
The course brought together 25 participants from three countries, including 22 Italian soldiers, two Lebanese soldiers, and one Maltese soldier. Throughout the training, participants developed the skills required to operate safely and effectively in mountainous terrain at altitudes between 2,000 and 3,500 metres.
The programme provided practical instruction in a range of specialist techniques, including rope work, mountaineering knots, belaying procedures, casualty recovery, emergency response, glacier movement, and safe navigation across challenging alpine environments.
According to the Armed Forces of Malta, the course was designed to enhance the knowledge and practical abilities needed to operate in demanding mountain conditions while strengthening international military cooperation through joint training with allied forces.
The Armed Forces of Malta congratulated Lance Bombardier Agius Arnold on successfully completing the course, describing the achievement as one that further enhances the operational capability of the Armed Forces of Malta.
