Prime Minister Robert Abela opened the Labour Party’s Congress 2026 in Gozo by announcing the iStudy Hub project, described as a strategic investment aimed at creating “a modern environment for students and research.” According to the statement, the project is expected to attract both Maltese and foreign students while helping strengthen Gozo’s economy through new jobs and industries linked to education and innovation.
During the discussion, Abela also announced that 150 bicycle racks will be installed as part of a wider plan to reduce dependence on cars and encourage alternative transport. He said the measure is intended to make movement within communities safer and more accessible, while contributing to a cleaner environment and better quality of life.
The Prime Minister also referred to international uncertainty, including geopolitical tensions, inflation, and wider economic challenges affecting European countries and beyond. He said Malta must continue with a cautious and responsible economic policy to protect families and businesses from external shocks. He also pointed to the positive DBRS Morningstar rating as confirmation of the country’s financial resilience.
The congress, held under the theme “Malta Aħjar – write the next chapter,” also included proposals on social services, education, justice, infrastructure, and connectivity.
