The government announced continued investment in community projects related to animal welfare. During a visit to a dog park, Parliamentary Secretaries Alison Zerafa Civelli (Local Government) and Alicia Bugeja Said (Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights) highlighted the progress achieved through local councils.

They noted that every local council in Malta now has a councillor responsible for animal welfare, a structure that has helped strengthen local initiatives. The government has also introduced voucher schemes for cat feeders and launched data collection on cat colonies across towns and villages.
Zerafa Civelli emphasised that councils have collaborated closely with the Animal Welfare Directorate to launch projects such as dog parks, cat cafés, and educational campaigns. “The protection of animals within our communities is very important,” she said, “and as a government we are continuing to launch incentives and implement Budget measures to reinforce this work.”
Bugeja Said added that the reopening of the Animal Hospital and the creation of a new animal crematorium and rehoming centre, including facilities for horses, mark a new phase. “We are committed to ensuring that every animal receives proper care and respect,” she affirmed.
