Education Minister Clifton Grima stated that he “will never accept” any attempt to deny MCAST engineering graduates their professional warrant after completing their studies. He said this following reports that the Maltese Association of Professional Engineers (MAPE) had opposed recognising MCAST qualifications.
In his statement, Minister Grima said: “Some are ready to deprive MCAST engineering students of their warrant after they have graduated from their course — I will never accept that.” He added that, in his view, no distinction should be made between graduates of different tertiary institutions: “Whether you graduate from MCAST, the University, or any other tertiary institution should never make a difference, as long as the board is satisfied that the academic qualifications are equivalent and recognised.”
The Minister referred to a recent vote by the Engineering Board, which approved considering MCAST students for the warrant. He noted that two members who opposed the decision later filed a legal injunction against the board.
Minister Grima emphasised his commitment to students, saying he would “ensure that no MCAST graduate is left behind” and that government support for youth remains constant.
