Family, friends and members of the Pakistani Catholic community gathered this morning at the Church of Ta’ Ġieżu in Valletta to bid a final farewell to Nadab John, the 15-year-old Pakistani altar server who tragically died after getting into difficulty while swimming at Xgħajra.
Nadab had become an altar server at Ta’ Ġieżu just six weeks before his death. His family had previously shared that serving at the church had brought him immense joy, saying they had “never seen him so happy before” after he joined the Franciscan community.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated in Urdu, reflecting the language of Malta’s Pakistani Catholic community. In an emotional moment before the liturgy began, Fr Ramon Farrugia OFM, Provincial of the Order of Friars Minor, carried Nadab’s coffin into the church together with fellow Franciscan friars. Following the Mass, Nadab was laid to rest in the Franciscan Friars’ graves at the Addolorata Cemetery.
The funeral drew members of the local Catholic community, who came together in prayer and solidarity with Nadab’s parents, siblings and relatives during their time of grief.
Following the funeral, the Franciscan community announced that all donations, including the funeral collection, will be given entirely to Nadab’s family. Anyone wishing to help can donate via Revolut or BOV Pay on 9924 6768.
