Maltese football clubs competing in European competitions will receive further financial support through an agreement between VisitMalta and the Malta Football Association.
Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela announced that each eligible club will receive a €15,000 incentive, continuing financial assistance provided by VisitMalta to local teams participating in official UEFA competitions.
The beneficiaries are Floriana FC in the UEFA Champions League; Ħamrun Spartans FC, Marsaxlokk FC and Valletta FC in the UEFA Europa Conference League; Mġarr FC’s women’s team in the UEFA Women’s Champions League; Luxol St Andrews in the UEFA Futsal Champions League; and Valletta FC in the UEFA Youth League.
The clubs will carry the VisitMalta brand on their kits during UEFA competitions.
Minister Abela said Malta’s geographical size should never limit the ambitions of Maltese sport. “When Maltese sport wins, all of Malta wins,” he said.
MTA Chief Executive Carlo Micallef described Maltese clubs competing in Europe as important ambassadors for the country, while MFA President Bjorn Vassallo said the financial assistance represents “a direct investment in our member clubs”.
