The Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health has issued a precautionary notice advising the public not to bathe at Il-Bajja tal-Għażżenin in San Pawl il-Baħar following an overflow of sewage into the sea.
According to the Directorate, the advisory has been issued in line with the Bathing Water Directive after an incident that “may affect bathing water quality and poses a potential risk to bathers’ health.” The affected bathing site has been identified as Site Code C23, and warning signs have been placed in the area to inform the public.
Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) are currently carrying out further investigations to establish both the source and the extent of the contamination. Authorities stated that, at this stage, “the duration of the contamination cannot be predicted,” and the bathing advisory will remain in place until water quality has been restored.
Once testing confirms that the bathing water is again safe, the warning signs will be removed and another official press release will be issued informing the public that the site is once again fit for bathing.
Members of the public seeking further information are encouraged to contact the Environmental Health Directorate or consult its official online platforms for the latest updates on bathing water quality.
