During a family-focused activity organised by Sarah Bajada in Buskett, Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg announced a proposal aimed at improving animal welfare services in Malta. He stated that a new Nationalist Government would ensure the country has a veterinary hospital operating around the clock.
Borg explained that the plan is to provide “a hospital open 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” including nighttime hours, weekends, and public holidays. The proposal is intended to guarantee continuous access to care for animals, addressing concerns raised by pet owners.
He said that the hospital “had previously been closed under a Labour Government”, creating “difficulties for owners” trying to access timely treatment for their animals. The “lack of round-the-clock services” has been highlighted as a challenge for those needing urgent veterinary care.
The proposal includes reopening and maintaining this facility to ensure consistent and reliable services for animal care across Malta. The initiative forms part of broader commitments being announced in the lead-up to the general election.
