Professor Pierre Schembri-Wismayer has announced that he will be contesting the upcoming national elections with Momentum Party Malta. The 58-year-old academic, originally from St Julian’s and now residing in Żabbar, brings a long-standing career in science, education, and research into the political sphere.
Educated at St Joseph Sliema, De La Salle College Cottonera, the University of Malta, and the University of Glasgow, he currently lectures in Anatomy and Cell Biology within the Medical Faculty. His research focuses on cancer, stem cells, and biomechanics, alongside a strong commitment to science communication and education.
Professor Schembri-Wismayer has also been active in outreach initiatives, securing European funding for the TV series X-lab aimed at encouraging children to pursue science. He has participated in national events such as Science in the City and Teen Science Café, engaging directly with students. His work includes leading the development of the Malta Hip and MaltaKnee medical devices in collaboration with international partners.
Momentum leader Arnold Cassola stated that the party is honoured to welcome him, noting that his experience, academic strength, and ethical standards bring added value to the team.
