Investment of nearly €890,000 has been announced in four innovative local research projects focusing on the energy sector, during the fifth thematic event on Research and Innovation organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth, Research and Innovation in collaboration with Xjenza Malta. This follows previous events addressing sectors such as health, digital technology, and nutrition.

Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti stated that the projects — AIRSAVE, VACUUM, HyMiCHP, and ECO-Composite — demonstrate how “local research is addressing global challenges in a proactive manner.” He emphasised that “by investing in these energy technologies today, we are continuing to strengthen energy security,” in line with the Malta 2050 Vision.

The projects aim to deliver practical solutions. AIRSAVE uses artificial intelligence to reduce industrial energy consumption and CO2 emissions, while VACUUM introduces a new system to improve production efficiency. HyMiCHP focuses on affordable energy solutions for households, and ECO-Composite replaces traditional plastic with sustainable materials developed in collaboration with University of Malta and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University.

Experts highlighted the real impact of these initiatives, noting how theoretical ideas are being transformed into practical solutions that improve efficiency and sustainability, while maintaining competitiveness.
