A successful edition of the ‘Pet Day’ activity brought together hundreds of families and their pets in Valletta, as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness about animal rights and welfare. The event, organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights, offered a day filled with educational and interactive activities for attendees of all ages.
Throughout Saturday, participants enjoyed a variety of experiences designed to promote responsible pet care while spending quality time with their animals. The event also marked a notable achievement, with a new national record set for the largest number of different pets gathered in one place over six hours, reaching a total of 345 animals.
Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said stated, “This activity clearly shows the strong interest and love towards animals in our society,” adding that such initiatives continue to strengthen “the message about the need for care and responsibility towards all animals.”
Animal Welfare Commissioner Dr Fleur Abela emphasised that “events like ‘Pet Day’ are important to connect more with the community and continue raising awareness.” Meanwhile, Mayor Olaf McKay described the event as “a beautiful opportunity for the community to come together in a positive and inclusive environment.”
