Opposition parties in Italy have formally requested that the Speakers of both Chambers urgently summon Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to address parliament regarding the ongoing war involving Iran. The call comes amid growing political concern over the international crisis and its implications for Italy and Europe.
Speaking on television on the same day, Meloni clarified Italy’s position and the circumstances surrounding recent military developments. She stressed that “the United States and Israel decided to attack without the involvement of European partners,” underlining that European governments were not part of the decision-making process. Her remarks sought to distinguish Italy’s stance from the actions taken by Washington and Tel Aviv.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s immediate priorities in light of escalating tensions across the Gulf region. She stated that “the government is currently engaged in assisting the thousands of Italians who have remained stranded in Gulf countries.” Efforts are underway to provide support and ensure the safety of Italian nationals affected by travel disruptions and regional instability.
The situation continues to evolve as diplomatic and security concerns intensify across the region.
