The Christmas spirit was brought to Għargħur through a special activity organised for elderly persons, following a collaboration between Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC) and the private residential home Golden Care. The event was held outside Golden Care’s main building and was attended by “a good number of elderly persons who attend Day Centres from around Malta.”
Those present were treated to a varied programme featuring music, dance and singing. Performances were delivered by several groups, including the Mellieħa Line Dance Group, as well as the choir and dance groups from Mellieħa and Naxxar. These groups are made up of members who also attend Day Centres. During the activity, a small band played various Christmas melodies which, according to the statement, “certainly brought joy to the hearts of those present.”
A dedicated area was also set up where elderly participants were invited to write down their Christmas wishes. These wishes ranged “from requests for health and love to wishes for peace around the world.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea addressed those present together with Permanent Secretary Renzo De Gabriele and AACC Chief Executive Steve Agius. In his address, the Parliamentary Secretary praised cooperation between public and private services, stressing the importance of activities that “strengthen the sense of community, reduce loneliness and spread joy among our elderly.”

Following the speeches, the Parliamentary Secretary and officials visited residents inside the home, extending Christmas greetings.
