The Labour Party has questioned the Nationalist Party’s financial declarations, raising concerns about what it describes as inconsistencies in the PN’s reported debt figures over recent months.
In a statement issued by the Labour Party’s Communications Office, it was claimed that the PN had moved “from declaring a debt of €32 million to now quoting €11 million” in less than six months. The statement argues that this change has not been adequately explained by the Nationalist Party.
The Labour Party pointed to remarks made by PN Secretary General Charles Bonello in June. According to the statement, on 17 June Bonello said that the PN’s debt stood at “€32.5 million as declared by the Leader,” while on 20 June he stated that the figure “remained the same.”
The Labour Party said that the figure announced by the PN Leader on Monday raises questions about “where more than €20 million in debt has disappeared from the PN’s accounts.” The statement further claimed that this discrepancy casts doubt on the party’s financial credibility.
The Labour Party concluded by stating that those who are “not credible in managing their Party’s finances can never be trusted to manage the country’s finances.”
