Graphic New Film Highlights Real Human Impact of Road Accidents

A new educational film on road safety has been officially launched as part of the national campaign Aħsibha Darbtejn! during an event held at Ta’ Qali. Journalists and local media personalities were invited to attend the premiere, which forms part of wider efforts to raise awareness about the realities of traffic accidents.

The production features a realistic reconstruction of a traffic collision, offering a close look at the first minutes following an impact, including “the crucial moments that follow and the immediate intervention of public officials and emergency services.” The film highlights not only the technical aspect of accidents but also the human cost and the tragic consequences that such cases often leave behind.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett emphasised the importance of this initiative, noting that while accidents are discussed frequently, “the conversation often remains superficial.” He added that the film “has a greater effect because people can relate to what they will be seeing,” stressing that today new factors—such as drug use and mobile phone distraction—also contribute to accidents.

Director Jason Zerafa said the experience of filming was deeply impactful, explaining that scenes performed by actors reflected “real situations that unfortunately people go through.”

In the coming weeks, the short film will be shown inside a mobile cinema touring major towns and villages across Malta and Gozo. The initiative will continue beyond the festive season, as road safety remains a year-round priority.
