Thirty-seven new recruits have joined the Police Force as constables after successfully completing the Police Academy’s recruit training course, accredited at MQF Level 4 by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. The Ministry for Home Affairs, Security and Employment stated that the recruits will now begin serving the community and the country.

The course covered academic and physical components, including 63 subjects such as Maltese law, ethics, diversity, procedures, and investigations related to domestic violence, child abuse online, sexual offences, and mental health awareness.

Throughout this year, the Police Force continued to strengthen its workforce with “a net increase of more than 160 full-time members,” including over 100 sworn officers and 64 new civilian officers.

Minister Byron Camilleri told the new constables that the day of their oath “is not the day of arrival but the beginning of a career of satisfaction and service.” He urged them: “Be integral… carry out your duty with justice, dignity, and empathy… be the shield of society.”

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà encouraged recruits to uphold discipline and responsibility while honouring the Force’s core values: impartiality, integrity, leadership, and respect. He added: “This is not any job. This is a career the Corps is developing into a profession.”

The ‘PC Mark Farrugia Award’ for best-performing recruit was awarded to Sean Vella.
